What is Blogging / what is a blog?
A blog is an abbreviated version of a weblog (website log), which is used to describe sites that contain an ongoing chronicle of information. Blogging is the activity of creating short articles known as blogs.. A blog features diary-type commentaries and links to articles on other website or locations within that website. Blogs are used in many areas of life, professions and vocations. They are best described as interactive articles laid out in chronological order that can be shared on an endless stream of other social media platforms. There are two types of blog, a free blog and a paid blog.
A free blog mostly have an extension after your chosen website name and there are different providers of free blogs . Google’s owns a free blog known as blogger with their extension (blogspot.com) added. A good example of a free blog is my blog www.naijawealthportal.blogspot.com . Another example of a free blog is wordpress blog with their extension (wordpress.com) added. The main edge of a paid blog over a free blog is the full customization ability of a paid blog and mostly a paid blog gives you the advantage of elimination the free blog’s extension thus it will be www dot you or your company / product name dot com.
What is Blogging ?
A blog is a personal diary. A daily pulpit. A collaborative space. A political soapbox. A breaking-news outlet. A collection of links. Your own private thoughts. Memos to the world.
Your blog is whatever you want it to be. There are millions of them, in all shapes and sizes, and there are no real rules.
In simple terms, a blog is a website, where you write stuff on an ongoing basis. New stuff shows up at the top, so your visitors can read what’s new. Then they comment on it or link to it or email you. Or not.
Since Blogger was launched in 1999, blogs have reshaped the web, impacted politics, shaken up journalism, and enabled millions of people to have a voice and connect with others.
What is Blogging to You?
Blogging is a concept that has changed rapidly over the past few years. Previously if you asked someone what is blogging, the most probable reply would be that it is a hobby or an activity to kill time. But fast forward to the current times and try asking a blogger what is blogging and the replies you get would not only be much different than the previous one but also quite varied. Every blog has a different perspective about what is blogging and hence the difference in answers.
If you ask me about blogging and what it means to me, my answer is plain and simple. It is my passion and my business. I blog because I love doing it and my focus in creating this blog is to use it as a platform to do various activities. The top 3 have been listed below:

What is Blogging for Historians?
This is a blog about blogging. It is also a little more than that, in that I hope – in time – for it to become something of a resource in its own right. I hope that it can help to inform others about why you might want to blog, what the point of it all is, and what pitfalls you might wish to consider before you begin. In principle many of the things I will be looking at and investigating will be relevant to any kind of blog, but the focus is more tightly restrained than that, for this project is an investigation into best practice in the History profession. This includes academia (which is my background), but also archives and libraries.
As you may have noticed via the series of logos and links on the left column this blog is part of a wider project entitled the Social Media Knowledge Exchange (SMKE). This project is funded by the AHRC and acts as a collaborative enterprise by several higher education institutions based in the UK. Its aim is to give postgraduate students and early career researchers in the Arts and Humanities the opportunity to exchange knowledge with social media practitioners in academia, museums, archives, libraries, and the voluntary sector. This specific project investigates best practice in blogging specifically in the History discipline.
What Is Blogging for Business Really All About?
There are many reasons business people come up with for not using a blog as a platform for enhancing their brand image. I have written in detail about 12 of them. But I think the most fundamental reason why business people are turned off to blogging for business is that they don’t understand what it really means. Time and again, I run into business people who think that having a business blog means writing about their business. That cannot be further from the truth.
A personal blog typically amounts to a digital diary. It’s a journal in which people discuss their life experiences and rant about the viewpoints. So, it is only natural that a business person think that blogging means talking about her business. It’s no wonder, then, that business people scoff at the idea of blogging. Why would anyone want to read about my business? Isn’t a bit presumptuous to think that people want to hear me go on and on about my company’s history? Who wants to spend time reading an advertisement? You are precisely right. But, then again, blogging for business is not a business diary.
