How to create a Google+ Page for your Blog

Today, the much awaited Google+ pages were opened up to the general public. It obviously created a lot of buzz on popular tech blogs and forums. As bloggers we can put up a happy face as most of us want as many opportunities as possible to promote our blogs. Google+ pages could be another medium, but it’s still early hours.

This post is specially for bloggers who are not familiar with technicalities of opening a page properly on a social network. I felt it was necessary to write a tutorial on this as there is a lot of confusion in the minds of bloggers and website owners as to which category to choose when creating a page. If you remember when Facebook introduced their pages, it didn’t offer as much categories as it should have offered.

So it was difficult to categorize our pages until they released another update to fix that issue. Now, we have a lot of options to choose from. Coming back to Google+, it’s a good sign that Google has learnt from Facebook’s mistake and released a full-fledged pages feature. As a designer I liked the UI of the pages creation center. The entire process works pretty smoothly and it just takes a few minutes to create your blog’s Google+ page.

How To Create A Group Tumblr Blog

Tumblr blogs are known for being easy to use and simple to set up. But the blogging platform lives up to its reputation only as far as standard accounts go.

Want to set up a company blog that contributors can post to from multiple accounts? Want to use a password-protected Tumblr internally? Get ready for some help-section browsing.

Because Tumblr wants everybody’s “primary blog” to represent them, it does not allow users to create group blogs or password-protected accounts. In order to do so, you’ll need to create an additional blog under your account and then invite other members to join it. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial to get you started:

Christian Blogging Tips

Christian Blogging Tips for WordPress.com Users

1. Content – This is an obvious one for all blogs but should be noted. Having good, consistent and professional looking content will bring more readers. Spell-check, proofread and have a clean looking site. Stick to somewhat of a schedule so readers can know when to expect more content. It is good to watch your article length as well. To a first time reader long, extensive articles of 2000 or more words can be intimidating and may cause them to skip reading altogether. I try to keep my posts under 1000 words with the occasional exception. If your style is to write lengthy articles then consider breaking them up into series.

2. Interaction – Blogging is all about being interactive and communicating. If nobody knows your blog exists then you obviously won’t have any readers. A great way I’ve found to gain readers is by visiting other blogs and leaving comments on articles you enjoy. This goes back to what Jesus taught in the sermon on the mount: Whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them…(Matt 7:12)

3. Tags and Categories – It is very important to tag and use categories correctly. A great way for people to find you is by using some common tags on your blog such as: Jesus, Christ, Faith and God. This is also a great way to find other Christian blogs. If you go to your WordPress reader and type in one of these tags in the topic box you’ll get all the recent blogs posted under the tag. DO NOT use more than a total of 15 combined tags and categories for each post. If you use more than 15 you will not be listed in WordPress readers.

5 Blogging Tips For Newbies

This is a guest blog post by Fenella Saunders, managing editor at American Scientist, who attended the Back to the Blog conference at Duke University on October 13, 2012.

If you’ve opened this post, you’ve probably already seen the attractiveness of one major blog tip for newbies: Use a number in your title that will give people a list they can scan quickly and take away some pithy information about how to do something. (And apparently odd numbers are more attractive than even ones.)

That was one of the points brought up at the “Back to the Blog” workshop held at Duke University on October 13. Anton Zuiker and Cara Rousseau organized some great information and guest speakers for those who don’t know much about blogging. (See more links and details).

Business Blogs – Tips to Streamline and Create Blogs that Customers Want to Read

For those that have business related blogs, you can sometimes feel like you have fallen into the proverbial rut when it comes to finding topics and ideas that will keep your customers and clients coming back to read more. In some ways, a business blog is not too much different from a personal blog, while in other ways they are two completely different areas of the planet. Find a happy medium between the two can not only keep your readers looking forward to your next blog post, but will help you be able to get out of that rut and never be at a loss for a topic. The following are some tips to help you keep your blog fresh and interesting, and not leave you scratching your head fighting writer’s block.

Write What People Want to Read

While this may sound like common sense, there are strategies to making sure that you are not wasting your time writing an article that only a few people are going to read. While this may require a little trial and error, sometimes it comes down to producing more interesting blogs than more of them. Writing one or two articles that people want to read versus 10 than no one is interested in, quality gains priority over quantity. By considering your blog site as a part of your social media campaign instead of its own separate entity, you can use these different parts to create a better social media experience overall. What this means is, use your Facebook, Twitter or Google+ pages to see what your readers are interested in. Instead of spending time writing an article to post hoping that people read it, use that time to post on your other social media sites to see what people want to read about. Today, time is a valuable commodity, and while you value the time you spend writing your articles, you do not want to make you readers think they wasted their time reading your article.

Business Blogging Tips: The Why and The How

Keep your visitors’ interests in mind when developing a blogging strategy. Determine what kinds of content your visitors are interested in. Mine your website logs and search queries to see what people are searching for in relation to your industry. Check industry forums and Q&A sites to see what problems your visitors face, and what topics they care about. Use this information to create a blogging calendar, outlining the topics you’ll cover.

Understand that while visitors expect and appreciate a fairly consistent flow of blog posts from you, there is no magic number of posts that you should create per week or month. Blogging once or twice a week is great, but be honest about your ability to produce content on a regular basis. If you believe you can only create one post every two weeks, then don’t try to increase the frequency only to find that you are creating uninteresting posts just for the sake of meeting a schedule. On the other hand, if you have a lot of good content you can create, and the time to do so, then increase the frequency of posts as needed. Once you get into the rhythm of blogging, make an attempt to stick to a schedule as much as possible, so your readers know when to expect new posts from you.

There is NO Magic number
The following tips will help you craft your posts in a way that will be beneficial to both your readers and the search engines. Train your bloggers to review each post before publishing to ensure it meets these criteria.

Guest Blogging Tips: How To Get Your Post Accepted

Guest blogging is the fastest way to get instant traffic from search engines, social networks and from the established blogs, all just by writing a couple of posts to the blog, and that traffic will keep coming for life, or at least for as long as it is published and the blog is live.

The advantages of guest blogging is it can boost a blog traffic even if the blog is just getting started, much like Facebook can boost the traffic to any blog that is just getting started.
However, getting your post accepted is not easy because these blogs are very careful about nor accepting content from low quality sources of information and writers just looking for a traffic boost who write just about topics which are already so written about.

Spend 15-20 minute for doing research about the article that what people are writing and what you can add in their writing. If you are targeting any keyword then do keyword research before writing and target keywords with less competition. Do not write about old news which no one cares anymore. Be one step ahead of the blogging industry and write about what is very likely to come next, ahead of everybody.
